Z43 289
History
The Z43 289 was originally delivered to Statens Järnvägar (SJ) and was mainly used for shunting and light freight traffic. In 1956 it was relabelled from Z4 289 to Z43 289. During the 1980s, the locomotive engine was transferred to the railway department and was given the letter Qaz 9451091, later changed to Qzs 945 1091. In 1990 it became Banverket's MTZ043 3464 and in 1992 DAL 3464. In 1994 the engine was sold to Nässjö Railway Museum, where it is preserved today.
Design and use
The first series of Z43 locomotives, including the Z43 289, were characterised by a cab placed in the middle of the locomotive and a streamlined appearance. These locomotives were originally painted in a maroon colour. They were equipped with a two-speed gearbox that allowed speeds of up to 55 km/h, making them suitable for both shunting and light freight transport.
Preserved specimens
Several Z43 locomotives have been preserved as museum vehicles. In addition to Z43 289 and Z43 200 with us, there are examples in several other museums around Sweden. Z43 289 represents a typical and very common locomotive engine that was seen in industries and small railway yards around Sweden for a long time.
