AB3K 4873

Combined first and second class carriage

The AB3K passenger coach is a combined first and second class seating coach of the 1960s type, manufactured by AB Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna (ASJ) between 1961 and 1964. This car was part of the modernisation of the passenger car fleet by the Swedish State Railways (SJ) during this period.

Design and use

The AB3K coaches combined both compartments and saloons. The first class compartment consists of two compartments and a small saloon with two fixed armchairs in the centre. The second-class compartment consists of a two-part saloon. Between 1989 and 1991, these carriages underwent modernisation, including refurbishment of the interior, installation of loudspeakers and built-in tail signals. These improvements raised standards and extended the life of the carriages.

History

AB3K 4873 was originally delivered to SJ and used in both domestic and international traffic, especially adapted for traffic to Denmark. After SJ began to discontinue the sixties coaches in 2004, AB3K 4873 was transferred to us, where it is preserved today, as part of the association's 60s trains.
