B5 4932
Design and use
The B5 carriages combined both saloon and compartment areas, offering flexibility and comfort to passengers. Some carriages were also equipped with children's compartments and changing rooms. Between 1985 and 1989, these carriages underwent a refurbishment that updated the interiors. The compartments were reduced from eight to six seats to increase comfort, and the carriages were equipped with loudspeaker systems and in-built tail signals.
History
A total of 115 B5 carriages were produced for SJ in the 1960s. SJ started phasing out this type of carriage in 2004, and the last ones were withdrawn from regular service in January 2006. Some wagons were transferred to other operators and are still in service, in refurbished form.
B5 4932 represents an important part of Sweden's railway history and illustrates the development of passenger transport in the mid-20th century. Our carriage has been restored with a gentle refurbishment that reflects the carriage in a renovated version from after the refurbishment in the 80s.
The carriage has been renovated and reupholstered, through the grateful support of Swedbank.
