S11 4880
Bar and cinema car S11
The special carriage S11 4880 is a converted railway carriage that combines a cinema and bistro to offer a unique travel experience. This carriage, along with another, was converted in 1991 from an AB3 carriage to be used in the night trains to the upper Norrland. The conversion included a cinema with a sloping floor, sound system and screen, as well as a bistro area designed as a bar with bar tables and loose chairs.
The carriage is unique in that it is only available in 2 copies, where the railway museum / traffic authority has one, and we have the other. The wagon is the first railway bio wagon in the world.
History
- 1991: Converted from AB3 carriage to S11 to serve as a cinema and bistro carriage in SJ's night trains to upper Norrland.
- 2000: After SJ stopped running the night trains to upper Norrland, the S11 carriages were used, among other things, in winter sports traffic to Storlien.
- 2008: S11 4880 was sold to the Nässjö Railway Museum and is now used in the museum association's excursion trains.
The S11 4880 represents an innovative period in Swedish railway history, which sought to offer passengers more than just a transport service, by integrating entertainment and catering on board.
