HNJ Steam wagon
A unique treasure
Steam cars can almost be said to be the predecessor of the motor car. The HNJ steam carriage was acquired in 1888 from Atlas verkstäder in Stockholm to be used for the executive board's journeys, business and pleasure trips or when celebrity visits were to be transported. Consequently, King Oscar II, his consort, senior directors and HNJ staff and their families used the steam carriage until around 1925, when it was decommissioned and donated to the SJ Railway Museum. In 1970, the wagon came to Nässjö and was restored to working order.
After being used in the association's service until 1996, it was time to make a thorough renovation which saw its completion in 2014. The steam wagon is now back in the operating fleet and is available for hire for yard excursions etc. We use it occasionally at our events.
