B1S 4814

Catering and conference trolley

The B1S 4814 is a converted second-class seating trolley, originally of the B1 type, which has been adapted into a flexible catering and conference trolley. The trolley has a bar area and can be used for both catering and meetings in an open plan layout. With its unique design, the B1S 4814 offers a combination of comfortable travelling and social spaces.

History and remodelling

B1S 4814 started its service as a traditional second-class seating coach of the B1 model. This type of coach was produced in the 1960s and used throughout the SJ network. To meet new needs, the carriage was converted into a dining carriage with a bar area and adapted for conference use. It can easily be converted to an open-plan layout, making it ideal for events, meetings and specialised travel. The carriage is internally nicknamed "Lennart's carriage", as the conversion was conceived and project managed by Lennart Ahlstedt, a long-standing member of the association.

Use and function

The trolley is currently used as a flexible part of the train set for special events, customised trains and themed trips. It offers travellers a place to relax and enjoy a lunch or dinner, while it can also serve as a mobile meeting room. The carriage often accompanies our restaurant carriage, to increase the number of seats to nearly 80 together with the R2 carriage.
